How long could sound travel before losing energy?

Posted by admin | 03/11/10 | Tagged Travel

Sound travels at 1100 feet per second. What distance could it conceivably travel before it finally loses it energy? Is it dependent on how much energy is produced in conjunction with that sound?

It will be subject to dampening on a continuous basis. Sound waves are dampened according to an inverse square law, where sound level drops as function of the square of the distance traveled.

Amount of dampening depends on the medium it is Traveling through.

The dampening will continue until all energy is dissipated – long after you can still hear it. So, the sound will still propagate, or move, through the medium long after you are unable to hear it.

The length of time you will still be able to hear the sound will depend on how much energy the original sound had, and the medium it traveling in.

My friend purchased a plane ticket with this and when he tried to link his frequent flier account with the reservation, the airline told him that he cannot earn miles with this since it was purchased with frequent flier miles. I understand tickets purchased with miles cannot accrue miles, but the travel agent never alerted him that she was going to use frequent flier miles and I don’t believe this is standard practice. Is this allowed?
I meant her own miles.

But the underlying issue is that the agent never alerted him about the use of her personal miles.

"If you mean the air miles used to purchase your friend’s plane ticket originally belong to the travel agent, yes it is allowed. For many airlines, the dirt cheap air tickets do not earn air miles too, not every ticket is entitled to air miles. For travel agents, using their own air miles to book a ticket for a customer at a low price is one of their ways to make a profit and there is nothing wrong with it."

This is completely wrong. By taking money and then using his or her miles to book the ticket, the travel agent is selling awards, which is explicitly in violation of the terms and conditions of nearly every single frequent flier program operating throughout the world today. Not only is this practice bad for the seller — the airline may choose a number of penalties for the account holder, including the forfeiture of miles or the closure of the account altogether — but the buyer of the ticket can be penalized as well.

The airline, under the terms of the frequent flier program, usually has the right to terminate the award ticket if they determine that it has been sold in violation of the program’s rules. This means that your friend, if it’s discovered that he purchased an award ticket, may either not get to go on his trip at all, or if they discover it when he’s trying to come Home, he may be forced to buy a walkup one-way ticket back home, which could be extremely expensive.

(If either of these things occur, then your friend will only have recourse against the travel agent in trying to get his money back — the airline’s terms are clear that the ticket can be unilaterally cancelled.)

It doesn’t matter whether the ticket would or would not have earned miles based on the fare code — when a person buys a ticket from a travel agent, I venture that they’d have a reasonable expectation that they were buying a revenue ticket, and not just buying an award that runs a risk of being cancelled from under them if the airline questions where the award came from. For that reason, I’d highly suggest that your friend speak to this agent and ask for a refund — barring that, I’d personally consider filing a chargeback with the credit card company, if a card was used, based on misrepresenation of the item purchased.

Hi, my friend and I are planning for a trip to Cuba, we both are American citizens, we are looking for a Travel agency that we can work with planning the trip. Any suggestions?
I’m hoping to fly out of Vancouver (I’m in CA) or Toronto.

I am not sure whether the usa government allows citizens to visit Cuba

Besides, better wait until big bad old fidel is no longer with us

When planning a trip online, you can do more than book the flight. Many websites offer Travel guides, lists of destination activities, etc. We’d love to know which online travel tools you rely on the most.

For me, I like to know more about the destination cities or countries. the facilities, information about cool place and tourism area, etc. I also would like to know about the accomodation that travel agencies provide. About the flight, I would like to know the plane type, the services they give especially for a long journey, and all kind of important information such as baggage limit etc.

How do I travel around the world cheaply?

I want to travel around the world for a few months during my gap year, but all the gap year and Travel companies cost a fortune! I’ve been told doing it solo is a lot cheaper. So how do I get the price right down and still be safe?

buy a row boat and go.

I would like to travel to Madagascar in November until mid December (6 weeks). But I keep reading that it is rainy season during that time. Unfortunately that’s the only time when my boss let’s me go on holiday. Is it still good enough to Travel thru Madagascar when it is rainy season or will it be too stressy and difficult to travel around?

Most rain here falls between November and March, much of it in heavy downpours with hail and thunder. Rainfall during the rest of the year is mostly very light and sporadic. On the plateau temperatures fall to moderate levels during the dry season and the nights may be chilly, but frost only occurs on the highest mountains.

For climatic reasons tourists prefer the inter-season (April – May – June – July – August – September – October – November – December)

last year during Nov there were 28,511 international tourists in Madagascar compared to 16,089 in Feb,
During October 32,364
October seems to be the favorite.

But Nov is in the very first part of "winter" season.

How can a person travel into the future of their original time line, what might be considered their "present", given that once in the past, a divergent time line is necessary to preserve continuity? Seems that once a person Travels back in time, it may be impossible to go back "home".

Not possible, You will only be able to travel along your alternate timeline. Recent Theory suggests it’s possible by locating the exact sweet spot between a White hole and a Black hole, but most of us think that will only result in your being squished.

I want to travel from Surat to hydrabad in shortest possible time. However I don’t want to Travel in flight from Surat. Though trains are an option. I’m ok if someone points out a good VOLVO bus etc too. Waiting for reply.

Today’s travel has become very hectic, and there are a lot of complaints about service. What are the things that a travel assistant service would do in an ideal world? What kinds of services would they provide and how could they make the experience of planning travel as easy and enjoyable as possible?

Planning is the enjoyable part. The difficult/stressful part is the actual Traveling. I would want a service that is available to help me if/when flights are canceled or delayed. Also, what about getting to a hotel and finding it’s substandard? I would want someone who could quickly get me to a better place.
