How does the new health care reform bill being passed effect my existing health insurance?

I already have health insurance. I have "Cover Florida Plan II" through Blue Cross Blue Shield. Will I just keep paying for my insurance like nothing happened? I am happy with my insurance and I don’t plan on changing it, unless I have to for some reason.

It will stay the same for the time being. As soon as the insurance companies are mandated to accept pre-existing conditions the premium will drastically increase. This will happen sometime this year. Most of the rest of the bill, except for the new taxes, won’t take effect until 2014 so little else will change until then.

How can I get health insurance for my parents?

My parents are in their early 50′s, and do not have health insurance. They are struggling with money, so paying for health insurance is the last thing on their minds.

What health problems can be caused by eating too much sugar?

I’ve always liked lots of sugar in my coffee, in my tea. Would this cause certain health problems when I get older, if so, what would they be?

Be sure you make a distinction between sugar from fructose ("bad") and glucose ("good"). Humans are anatomically and physiologically designed to seek and consume sugar. The tip of our tongue tastes with pleasure only one calorie-containing substance, sugar (carbohydrate). Some tissues of our body, such as red blood cells and kidney cells (glomeruli cells) will only burn carbohydrates.

Under experimental laboratory conditions, however, where people are overfed large amounts of simple sugars, the human body will resort to converting a small amount of sugar into a small amount of fat (triglycerides) in the liver.

Yet other studies comparing sugar intake with risk of developing type-2 diabetes show people on high sugar diets are less likely to get diabetes. There is, however, a strong relationship between red meat consumption and diabetes… The lowest rates of diabetes in the world are found among populations that consume the most carbohydrates. Contrary to popular belief, refined sugars actually make the body’s insulin work more efficiently though large quantities do cause a spike in insulin production. Sugar is rarely eaten alone, but rather in combinations with fat as single foods, like cake, ice cream, pies and candy bars, or a combination of foods, like the standard American diet which is about half fat and half sugar. The sugar spikes insulin production, pushing the readily available fat from the spoonful of dessert right into the belly fat.

There can be some real drawbacks and health hazards caused by consuming simple sugars, especially for those in poor health. It’s generally best to eat only complex and unprocessed sugars. As the carbohydrate becomes more purified through refining, weight control becomes less efficient. Also, the more sugar is consumed, and the more often it is consumed between meals, the more likely the teeth will decay. Pure sugars have been stripped of all their nutrients, except for the simple carbohydrate—thus they are called “empty calories.” To metabolize the sugar, nutrients stored in the body or from other foods must be scavenged—in this sense “sugar robs your body of vitamins and minerals.

Hope this helps!

Don’t Expect Anyone Else to Take Responsibility for Your Health

Most people when asked how important their health is would say it is at the top of their priority list. And if most people were asked if they would rather have lots of money or their health they would choose health.

Yet these same people are not doing the very thing that will keep them healthy and well.
Around 7 out of 10 people do not get any regular meaningful exercise. If proper exercise is an essential component for good health how can so many people consider it such a low priority?

Is it because they think that the “health” system ? doctors, drugs, tests, specialists, hospitals, surgeons etc are there to save them should they get sick? But the “sickness treatment system” does absolutely nothing to keep people well. It only responds when a person shows signs and symptoms of illness but by then it may be too late.

Every second person in our population has some chronic illness and many have multiple conditions. Is nobody putting two and two together here and linking this fact with the almost non existent natural activity in our lives? We may be super advanced with modern technology but at what price? One out of two peoples health and an early death?

We now know that the human body cannot stay healthy without constant vigorous activity. That is how we have been made, it is in our genes. How on earth do we think we can simply ignore this fact and get away with it?

You see this movement or “work” as it should really be known triggers chemical reactions that tell every single cell in every single tissue, organ and system in the human body to repair, rebuild and renew itself. Without this stimulus there cannot be this renewal that keeps us healthy and we become very exposed to the risk of disease that globally is shortening millions of lives.

These facts are not widely talked about or promoted as the “sickness treatment system” is worth billions of dollars and lots of sick people are needed to continually to feed this “sick” system and keep the wheels turning.

Each of us personally takes our health for granted until we get sick. People who claim they can’t be bothered to partake in proper exercise and self-care find themselves hospitalized or sick and out of commission for weeks or month or even forever. How much more valuable does our health then become after we lose it?

But why wait for this happen, you do not have to go down this path. Take a moment and think about your future and all that you would like to achieve in your life. Isn’t your good health an important component for the achievement of your goals and dreams? Doesn’t it make good sense that unless you take care of it you cannot take care of business, family and other interests?

It is each of our responsibility to do what we have to do to ensure that we remain in good health. Do not wait and pass that responsibility to a system that may or may not be able to fix you once the wheels fall off.

The most basic thing that everyone should be doing is to put back the “work” and the necessary strength retaining activity into our lives. Don’t be misled into thinking that low intensity activities like walking or gardening will do the job as it won’t. It has to be activity that stresses the muscles and bones such as strength training exercise.

If you have not done this type of activity before make sure you get the necessary help and guidance from a fitness professional. This will ensure that you get results quickly and effectively.

No one else can do this for you, no drugs; no surgical procedure can give you the same health benefits that your body would create on its own when you give it what it needs. So, get yourself going and experience the positive health results proper exercise offers.

How are you paying for health insurance if you are one of the millions recently laid off?

I know COBRA is available for many, but it is very expensive to keep up and runs only for a limited period. Questions like this have been asked before and those against governement supported health care just accused those who didn’t have health insurance as lazy losers. But with the economy crashing, the scenario has changed. If you aren’t employed anymore and have no income and little savings, what are you doing for health insurance?
TAT…I left my job and my COBRA payment was $1,200 a month for me and my family. When you are unemployed, that is a LOT of money and not "reasonable" as you describe it. Many don’t have enough money for rent and food, much less that kind of money.

There are many things that are expensive. COBRA is reasonable. If insurance is important to someone they need to make that sacrifice. I guess we should be paying for their food and homes. Those are expensive and a necessity. Where does it stop?
\
Bad things happen. That is life. Hard times come and tough decisions have to be made. That still does not make it anyone else’s reponsibility to care for you. And you need to talk to COBRA again. That figure, according to the guy I just spoke to , seems inflated.

Our Destiny Involves Each of Us Taking Responsibilityfor our Own Health

We have reached a stage in our development as human beings that we need to make some important decisions regarding our health and well-being. Maybe it is time that we take some of the focus on this constant development of technology and focus on our very own health.

Almost all of the activity in daily life has been removed, we have to do absolutely nothing to collect food, keep warm and have shelter. Our enemies are ones we have created ourselves such as cars on the roads and our chronic worldwide serious health problems that are on the verge on becoming epidemic.

It is a fact that one out of every two people on this planet has a chronic disease or illness and many have multiple conditions. Two thirds of us are overweight or obese and others feel lousy, are tired, worn out and are mistaking living for merely existing.

Is the connection not apparent between these two factors – lack of activity and chronic disease? How could such an intelligent collection of people allow this to happen?

Children being born now are predicted to have a shortened life span of between 20-30 years. Shame on us for leaving them a legacy such as this.

Every one of us is touched by this, we all have people that we know around us becoming sick and dying before our very eyes (many long before their time) yet no one does anything about it.

The people in the “sickness treatment system” do not mention the fact that our bodies need a certain amount of physical activity to stay healthy and well as opposed to drugs and treatments after symptoms of sickness appear.

Our bodies are hardwired and programmed for hard physical activity to allow us to survive in the harshest of conditions. Our prehistoric genes do not know that the fridge in the next room is full of food and that we have cars to take us from A to B.
These genes do not know that we need to sit and do nothing for almost every waking moment each day.

You see it is only with intense vigorous activity that the necessary chemical reactions take place that tell every cell, tissue, organ and system in the human body to repair, rebuild and renew itself. Without this happening on a constant basis there is no way that we can stay healthy and well.

Is our financially driven “sickness system” behind this, is it that lots of sick people are needed to keep feeding this money sucking monster? This system has nothing to do with health and everything to do with sickness. A sickness-based system does not provide or promote health, statistics show the health of the global population has steadily declined since World War II.

The fitness/exercise industry is being flooded with sick, desperate people looking for solutions. Whose job is it to help people stay well? Incredibly powerful money motivated forces are preventing people from taking control of their own health by withholding the information and solutions to keep people healthy.

Who allows the pretty boxes of so called food in the supermarkets full of dirt cheap ingredients that offer little or nothing in the way of nutrition? This is actually encouraging people to gain weight and become unhealthier. These forces that control our food sources and “health” care are so powerful that nothing short of a revolution will be able to stop them and that is what must happen.

A much greater awareness must be created in each of us that recognize the importance of the environment, the quality of our food, and the quality of our health. This new way is called wellness and can be defined as living to the best of ones potential and is more than the absence of disease.

It involves taking personal responsibility for one’s health, taking positive steps to avoid disease and living a lifestyle that promotes health, strength, fitness, vigor, and energy. Wellness means practicing self care by the use of proper strength building exercise, eating well and taking care of your top life priorities, your health. Rather than living your life slowly going downhill, losing strength and energy until sickness finally catches up with you.

The emerging wellness industry is as much a reaction to the dictatorship of the sickness and the food industries as it is to every person’s desire for the freedom, good health and longevity that wellness can offer. Each one of practicing wellness is the next natural step forward in our destiny and in the advancement of mankind.

Health Insurance Rates Skyrocketing

Medical advancements are promising longer lives, but can we afford it?  Health insurance has become so expensive that many people can no longer afford to purchase it.  As costs continue to skyrocket, many of us wonder where it will all stop.  At what point will we as a nation begin to do something about this problem?

The fact that health care costs are dizzyingly high should be enough, but the truth is that many of us really don’t understand how health insurance works.  What is a deductible and when does it reset itself?  We don’t know the differences between a PPO and an HMO, and many of us couldn’t tell you which, if either, we have.  With so many questions, there seems to be the need for some place to go for answers.

We all know about the FDA and their role in testing drugs and medical equipment before they can be released to the market.  We understand that medical practitioners need to be paid for their services to us, but we also feel like we are being taken advantage of with excessively high costs.  Insurance companies seem to make more and more money while we feel blindsided by the onslaught of new medications on the market.  And doctors keep writing prescriptions as though that will really solve the problem.

Each year, the number of new drugs approved by the FDA is astounding.  Escaping these medications is just not possible.  We are bombarded with advertisements on TV, radio, internet and billboards every way we turn.  How many new products do we need which are supposed to do basically the same thing as last year’s new product?

While millions of Americans are slowly losing a battle to take care of their bodies both mentally and physically, the cost of health care continues to slink higher.  Somewhere along the line, we let the basic necessity of having health care slip away from us, and now we wake up to the fact that for millions, health care is not an option, therefore we don’t have it.  This fact should not be the norm for anybody.  As the ranks of the uninsured grow and become more vocal, hopefully things will start to improve.

What is the health disadvantage to having extra melanin in your body?

For my biology class we get bonus points if we find out what the HEALTH disadvantage to having extra melanin (eumelanin) in the body is. I’ve searched everywhere and cannot find the answer. The only information I did find is cosmetological reasons for complications with laser surgery. But I need the health reason. Any help will be greatly greatly appreciated.
-Thankyou,

P.S.

As a component in the skin it protects against uv damage leading to skin cancer and also premature aging of the skin, this should be listed in the physiology text, check the index.

How will universal health care stop foreclosures and stimulate the economy?

These two points were made by Obama in his argument for urgency in passing his health care proposals. Isn’t he robbing "Peter to pay Paul"? This plan would tax businesses more than they currently pay for employee health care.

Here’s something to think about: according to the census bureau, of the 47 million or so that are uninsured almost 10 million are illegal immigrants, 8 million make over 75,000 a year, another 8 million make over 50,000 a year, and 14 million qualify for medic-aid or medicare but do not apply. Hmmm. makes you think that maybe our system isn’t so bad after all. So Obama needs to quit with his fear mongering and quit lying to us. There are a lot of unemployed, but 47 million is very misleading. Give us a real number!

Also the idea is that by giving health care to everyone, businesses don’t have to pay for it, and then they can give more jobs, increase profit, and help the economy. Which sounds great, if you’re stupid. Since Universal health care is insanely expensive, guess who pays for it? raised taxes on business and on the rich, (and apparently companies that aren’t green). So it’s basically a beat-around the the bush way to distribute wealth. And ask yourself this? Is it a good idea to take from from the rich? Take money from a poor man, and he becomes poorer, take money from a rich man, and he goes to work and fires his workers. So which is worse? MAYBE GOVERNMENT JUST SHOULDN’T TAKE PEOPLES MONEY!

What are the health benefits of cinnamon?

I love cinnamon gum and lollipops, cimmanon sugar and cinnamon in cooking. I always feel better and refresh after having cinnamon.

Do you know of any health redemies that cinnamon is used for and what are the benenfits for health and wellness?

Ground cinnamon is perhaps the most common baking spice. Cinnamon sticks are made from long pieces of bark that are rolled, pressed, and dried. Cinnamon has a sweet, woody fragrance in both ground and stick forms. The sweet-spicy flavor of Cinnamon enhances the taste of vegetables and fruits. Cinnamon is essential in hot cross buns and spiced wine drinks. Cinnamon and freshly grated nutmeg combine very favourably in many baked loaves and cakes.

It is useful in sore throat, cold, cough, sneezing and mild headaches. Also good for digestion.

What makes something a mental health issue as opposed to a regular health issue that involves the brain?

For instance, epilepsy is not considered a "mental health" problem even though it’s something that’s happening in the brain. Schizophrenia has to do with brain chemicals, but it’s a mental health issue.

Most mental illnesses are considered ‘brain’ issues as they involve irregularities in the functioning of the brain. Hence, the medications and treatments. It has also been recognized that all these conditions also have accompanying behavioral and emotional components hence they are also mental health issues.
Epilepsy is not considered by itself a mental illness because it involves misfiring in the brain but by itself does not have a direct emotional or social behavioral effect. Having said that dealing with epilepsy can be stressful and cause damage to the brain and psyche some of which are manifest as mental illness. Many persons live successfully as epileptics w/o dealing with mental illness.
