Weight Loss and Dieting

Dieting and weight loss often go hand in hand. It makes perfect sense actually. If you diet and watch what you eat, then you will lose weight. It should be that simple, but sometimes it just isn’t. Dieting incorporates everything such as the weight loss plan you choose, the right and wrong ways to lose weight, habits that cause you to stop losing weight, how large your portion sizes are, how many fruits and veggies you should eat, and just about everything else that you can possibly imagine.

When starting out on any weight loss program you need to know what kind of plan is best for you. It could be a group plan, a pre-packaged food plan, or a plan that just lowers your fat and calories and add exercise to your day. There are ways to lose weight the “right” way, as opposed to dieting in an unhealthy fashion. A new healthy weight loss plan should include:

• Counting calories
• Eating 6 small meals instead of 3 large ones
• Adding exercise at least 5 times a week to your daily routine
• Only weighing yourself one time a week, the morning is the best time
• Eating only small portions of the high calorie foods and larger portions of the fruits and vegetables
• Eating at a table and not in front of a television or a computer
• Focusing on why you are eating if you are not actually hungry
• Knowing what the bad fats and carbohydrates are in your diet
• Keeping track of your progress and what you put in your mouth
• Not quitting just because you have had a bad week on your diet

As you can see weight loss and dieting are more than just something to do to pass time. At first it may seem time consuming to check all the nutritional labels, and comparing the foods for lower fats and calories, but it is well worth the effort.

Soon you will see the weight dropping rapidly from your body if you incorporate all the above suggestions into your daily routine. Simple things like drinking more water, replacing the cookies with fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as walking up the stairs instead of taking the elevator. It is the little things that add up, and you just have to know where to start and what to do.

It is also important that you get your mind in the right place when you start your diet. It is important that you know why you want to lose weight, and set a goal to do so. It is up to you to decide that now is the time to diet and loss weight. It can’t be because anyone told you to, or because you want to look prettier. It has to be because you want to be healthier and have a better life for yourself. Yes, weight loss and dieting is hard work, but it something that you can do if you put your mind to it.

Does anyone have any dieting suggestions that actually work?

I am a 27yr old female with 2 children ages 3 and 1…..does anyone have any dieting suggestions that actually work? I am needing eating ideas that would work well with me and my family, as well as activities I can do with my children?
I try to walk about 5 miles a day. I really need to lose between 20-25 pounds to be at a healthy weight.

Don’t think of it as dieting first off. Think of it as a lifestyle change because if you want to get the weight off and keep it off you have to be willing to change forever. I found that cutting my fat down to 35 grams a day and calories to about 1500-1600 has made a big difference. Once you hit your goal weight bump it back up to between 60-65 grams of fat and your calories between 2000-2500 depending on how active you are. Also being very active has helped too. Activities you could do with the kids would be to go for walks to the park or go swimming since summer is almost here. Get out and run with them. Also I joined the Y and go work out whenever I can. Luckily my family is very supportive and I have lots of people offering to babysit and I manage to go 5 days a week. In less that 3 months I have lost 30lbs and I feel great. When you make meals try to have a main course, fruit and veggies with very little to no butter. IF I need butter I use a light margarine and only use like a teaspoon. Cut back on your salt also and drink TONS of water to help you stay full and hydrated. Avoid sugary drinks as much as possible. One cup of 100% fruit juice a day would be fine but try to avoid soda. I do drink a regular one every now and then but if I really need the caffeine I try to go diet. Good luck and I hope you reach your goals.

How to tell my friend she needs to stop dieting?

A friend of mine has been dieting for a year now and we haven’t seen her eat any carbohydrates for breakfast or lunch since then.
Two weeks ago, she drew a mark on to her arm (with a pen, not that important) and the mark still hasn’t vanished yet. Her skin looks very pale and unhealthy.
She’s very touchy about the subject of weight.
How would you suggest us to get her to eat properly again?

You don’t say how old this person is. If she’s an adult, then presumably nobody’s in a position to drag her to the doctor. She’s obviously suffering from anorexia nervosa, which is a mental illness. http://www.medicinenet.com/anorexia_nervosa/article.htm
She is likely to be admitted to hospital if this goes on. Most of us would want to avoid such an eventuality if we could. The problem is, while you see someone ill and scrawny, she sees someone quite plump when she looks in the mirror and she can’t understand why you’re fussing so much. Perhaps you need to lure someone in the medical profession to see her if she is not willing to seek advice herself.

I once worked with a male suffering from this disorder (it’s mainly females) and he looked like a little old man, although he was middle aged. As soon as he reached 50, he was made to retire early on medical grounds.

The Dangers of Crash Dieting

Perhaps in your thinking of losing weight, you have come across several probable methods. Aside from proper exercise techniques that require quite some time and effort, you may have encountered several diets which would seem beneficial but hard to do. Because of these difficulties, maybe the only option for you is to resort to crash dieting.

What is crash dieting?

Crash dieting is basically a quick solution many people come up with to lose weight. People may look at a mirror and notice their unwanted figure, so they think that by not eating literally starving themselves, they will lose the extra pounds. It’s a quick solution because it usually occurs for only a few days (usually less than a week), afterwards it’s back to regular meals.

Difference from other diets

The main difference between crash dieting and other forms of diet (e.g. Atkins, South Beach, etc.) is that crash diets are usually short-term. Most diets are programs that are designed to help you lose weight and keep it off, encouraging you to make that particular diet a lifestyle instead of simply a weight loss method. If in crash dieting you are avoiding food (or eating very little), diet programs have specific foods to eat and to avoid, which you are expected to act on for the duration of the program, normally for the rest of your life.

Is it a healthy way to lose weight?

If you’re asking yourself this same question, the answer is a flat-out NO. There are many different reasons why crash dieting is unhealthy, while there are few to no experts who believe that there are health benefits. Basically, if you are looking to lose weight, crash dieting is not a good way to do it, and here are several reasons why.

One, by not eating, or drastically cutting down on your food intake, you deprive your own body of natural nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, protein, carbohydrates, etc. We all know what will happen when the human body lacks nutrients, the risks of getting ill are higher. This is aside from generally feeling weak throughout the crash diet period.

Two, in crash dieting, you are slowing down your body metabolism, which is what allows you to burn fat and calories effectively and efficiently. You are doing the exact opposite of what you set out to do. You may not be gaining weight, but you aren’t burning fat and calories either. When you eat normally again, you will most probably gain some weight since your metabolism is already slow.

Third, you might notice that you are becoming skinnier as the time passes in your crash diet period, but don’t take it as burning fat, you are actually losing some muscle mass. This is not a good thing as this is what makes your body a fat burning machine.

Because you lost muscle mass, the next time you eat is going to be worse, you will gain back the weight plus more pounds.

To sum it up, crash dieting will make you lose some pounds, but not those unwanted ones, which are excess fat and calories. It’s an unhealthy way of losing weight and is the start of the “yo-yo” process (lose weight, gain more, lose again, and so on). For the benefit of your health, crash dieting should not be taken into consideration.

What are the alternatives to lose weight?

The best possible way to lose weight, as suggested by both nutritionists and fitness experts, is a combination of a healthy diet and exercise. Exercising while not having the proper diet will lead to inefficiency in weight loss, while diet without exercise will prevent you from gaining weight, but will not do as much in terms of losing it. By integrating the benefits of both a healthy diet and exercise into your lifestyle, you will turn your body into a fat burning machine, allowing you to lose weight and keep it off.

The next time you take a look at the mirror and frown at what you see, don’t worry too much, there are various ways to beat the battle of the bulge. Crash dieting is certainly not one of them, as this presents more potential risks than benefits. A healthy, proper diet, combined with exercise is the best way to go about it.

How long will it take dieting to see results?

I am a freshman in high school and I have a 4 pack. I do ab workouts everyday and lift weights. If I move the fat away from the bottom of my stomach I can clearly see a 6 pack. Got any free dieting tips? How long will it take to pay off? I want to eat good foods obviously because Im a high school boy. Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

It will take a very LONG time compared to an alternative. I know this doesn’t answer your question but i really suggest starving yourself is a bad idea…..Try working out i think it takes as long as dieting but its healthier and makes you stronger at the same time ;D.

How important is dieting while trying to loose weight?

im trying to loose 20-25 pounds. i work out and everything but when it comes to dieting, it just doesnt happen. and it doesnt help that my family buys really unhealthy food. i mean id love to eat healthy what should i do?

it is impossible to loose weight without a diet that is a fact. However by diet i do not think about those unhealthy pills or too less food or eat only vegetables etc. All you need to do is eat healthy and have at least 4 meals a day. You should be having 5-6 but 4 is also good. And a tip: If you eat slowly you usually eat less food cause you stop being hungry much sooner. Don’t rush and eat fast. Eat a lot of vegetables and fruit. When it comes to meat i suggest meat that is not specially prepared. I Suggest white meat from the chicken and turkey. Also if you eat too less food you won’t loose weight but you WILL feel tired. If you already workout this shouldn’t be a problem. Oh and also… you MUST eat breakfast. Good luck even though i don’t really think you’ll need it. If you start eating healthy you’ll see results in a week.

5 Suggestions for What to Eat When Dieting

After you read this short article, you will feel a little more focused on how exactly to go about making a healthy and attractive lifestyle change.

Okay, so let’s assume you’ve made the wise choice of keeping your hard earned money in your purse and you’re going to begin your healthy and attractive lifestyle the traditional way. First of all, eating should be viewed as one of life’s necessities in order to live. This may not be unconventional and exciting, but experts agree that it will provide you with the best long term results.

Now, you’re going to need to develop an exercise regimen, but that’s an article for another day. What we want to focus on here is what you should eat. A balanced diet is the key to optimal, healthy and attractive living. It will also help you fight cravings and the urge to cheat by making sure you’re never hungry.

One of the main ingredients to losing weight and being attractive is to lower your daily caloric intake. The general rule of thumb is that in order to lose one pound a week you need to lower your caloric intake by 500 calories, i.e. if you normally eat 2,000 calories a day you need to start eating only 1,500 per day.

You can do this by taking the following steps:

Suggestion for What to Eat When Dieting #1 Follow these guidelines

Eat foods that are low in calories
Eat less high fat foods
Eat smaller portions
Avoid second helpings

In order to do this, you’re going to have to learn how to read the packaging on foods. All come with a label that lists the caloric, fat, carbohydrate, protein, and nutrient content. It may take time to better understand what exactly the label means. To help you get started, you should consider focusing on the following foods.

Suggestion for What to Eat When Dieting #2 Eat more vegetables and fruits

Make sure they are fresh and not canned. Canned often comes with fattening preservatives that defeat the whole purpose of weight loss.

Suggestion for What to Eat When Dieting #3 Eat pasta, rice, breads, and cereals

Make sure you buy the kinds that have little or no sugars or fats added, i.e. avoid buying white bread, which is chocked full of sugar, and buy wheat. In fact, whole grain is the best way to go with all four of these food types.

Suggestion for What to Eat When Dieting #4 Eat some fatty foods

Not much, though. Fat is not completely unhealthy for you. You do need it in order to get energy and help absorb some nutrients. However, too much of a good thing can completely throw off your healthy and attractive lifestyle. Eating too much high fat foods can lead to high cholesterol and heart disease in the long run. No more than 15% of your diet should consist of fatty foods.

Suggestion for What to Eat When Dieting #5 Avoid sugar and salt

A little is okay, but just as is the case with fatty foods, too much of a good thing can lead your healthy lifestyle astray. You only need about one teaspoon of salt per day. As far as sugar goes, you should try avoiding it as much as possible. You may want to consider using sugar substitutes, such as Equal or Splenda instead. You should avoid alcohol as well. There is enough sugar and carbohydrates in a six pack of beer to equal an entire loaf of bread. If you insist on drinking, then stick to light or low carb beer.

These guidelines will help you get started. Remember, there are hundreds of ways to mix and match food to help keep it interesting. If you start doing this from the beginning, then you can better avoid those unhealthy late night cravings. By changing your eating habits, you can better ensure that once you begin living a healthy and attractive lifestyle, you will continue to do so for good.

What are some good dieting tips and foods?

I’m sorry fatty, but it looks like that belly of a gorrilla will be with you forever! All I can say is GUTTED!!!!

There are loads of great exercise tapes that you can find on amazon and other websites. If I were you I would get one with a hot topless male showing you the exercises!!! Exercising is the best way to lose weight, because you can choose where you lose it from!
Don’t bother with a diet, jut try to cut out snacking or get some healthier meals!

What would happen if you had 0% body fat, but kept dieting and eating really healthy?

What would happen if someone who was very fit, had 0% body fat, but kept dieting, regularly eating a lot of things like vegetables, fruits, lean turkey, etc.?

Would their weight loss just stop due to no more mass to lose?

if you got 0% fat you are going to die you have to have a minimum of 15% less you are in danger

What is a good metabolism booster pill that i can combine with exercise and dieting?

I have a slow metabolism, always have, and can’t seem to get it to increase, What is a good pill to combine with exercise and dieting, either over the counter, prescription, or natural.

Don’t take a pill or supplement for boosting your metabolism. Those things are mainly just caffeine pills and are horrible for you.
Instead, eat foods that are proven to boost your metabolism, such as grapefruit, honey, most vegetables, and various other healthy foods you can look up on Google.
If you insist on trashing your mental abilities and putting your heart into overdrive by taking a supplement for boosting metabolisms, take Lipo6x. It’s no worse for you than the others and the side effects are minimal. However, I do not recommend taking any of that garbage. You can accomplish more with just a good diet and exercise routine.

Is there any way to lose a gut without running or dieting?

I’ve never been a fan of running or dieting, but I have tried my hand at weight lifting and I seem to like it. Are there are any exercises known to really burn fat around your mid-section? Am I asking the obvious (answer: sit-ups)?

Thanks for your help. Answers from professionals appreciated!

sit ups will tone the ab muscles, and the more muscle in your body the faster your metabolism (thus the more calories you burn, even at rest) but if you have a layer of fat over your abs, the only way to get rid of that is to reduce calorie intake or exerise (preferably both).

To lose weight (burn fat) you must consume fewer calories than you burn. You need to burn 3500 more calories than you consume to burn 1 pound of fat…

Alas you can target tone (muscle) but not target burn fat. I wish ya could, because I’ve got saddlebags on my thighs I’d LOVE to focus on!

What should I look out for when dieting?

Hey people I am about to start dieting because I really need to lose some weight, but I don’t really know how to go on a diet. I mean besides from the obvious like avoiding candies and soda. What types of food should I look out for and what types of food should I be eating more of? Like protein, is protein good or bad, and what about carbs? Sorry if I sound stupid, but I really don’t know anything about this.

Thanks for the help.

Cut out all sugars & starches. No sodas, juices, cookies, candy, cakes, etc. As healthy as fruit may be, it’s natural sugars do not only not promote fat loss, they actually promote fat storage (fructose is the most lipogenic carb).

Make sure half your meals are green non starchy vegs & eat lots of protein & good fats, limit your complex carb portions to no more than your protein portion.

Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) trigger the fat storage hormone insulin. The more protein the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released.

I am adamantly opposed to low calorie dieting because most people lose a good portion of lean tissue (including vital organs like the heart) along with fat stores. There is no nutrition in fat stores, only energy. Most people get impatient and lower their calories and increase their exercise to a point where they lose so much lean tissue that when they return to what was maintenance level eating they are now accumulating more fat stores because their caloric needs have dropped due to the loss of this tissue as well as their metabolism slowing down to work more efficiently on fewer calories & it becomes a vicious cycle of dieting and more loss (including vital organs like the heart). This stress to the vital organs cannot be healthy.

What are some easy eight loss tips that do not involve dieting to lose ten pounds in about a month?

I have gained a lot of extra weight. What is a quick and easy way to lose some of that extra stomach fat by excercises that have nothing to do with pills, dieting, or anything like that. Please help me… cause as you know swimsuit season is coming!!

Maybe you should try exercising? You need about 30-60minutes of cardio 3-5 days a week in order to lose some fat. It would also be best to strengh train also so you can have a better ability to do the cardio workouts (1-3 days a week)

Maybe you should try to drink about 8 glasses of water and 8 hours of sleep.

Also maybe you should at least try to keep track of what you eat, get a journal and write down exactly everything you eat. It helps.

How much weight could I possibly lose with intense training and dieting in the next 7 mo.?

Im going to see someone special soon in July and I want to have slimmed down some by then. I’m 13 years young, 5’4, and weigh 195 pounds. How much weight could I possibly lose by then if I do some healthy dieting and exercise?

about it you can get information from here http://fdoctors28.notlong.com/3AA1VXF

Is it normal to feel tired when dieting an exercise?

I’m so exhausted and I want to know if it’s normal to feel tired when dieting. I thought it was supposed to give you energy? I’m onth biggest loser diet and I’m eating abotu 1500 cals a day if not more.

Yes, it’s completely normal; especially, if you’ve really cut down on the food. however, make sure you are eating food high in fiber and nutrition not just simple sugars that last for a very short time.

Dieting The Low Carb Way

A lot of people are now searching for ways to look good and improve their health. People who are obese are now realizing that if they don’t lose weight their health will deteriorate and their life span will be shortened.

With so many diets out there based on various principles and methods, it should not be surprising to know that there has also been extensive critique about their effectiveness and long-term safety.

Low carb dieting remains one of the most popular and well-known diets. While many diet plans have been evolving nowadays, many people still prefer this diet because it provides the body with the basic nutrients it needs; does not deprive you of all the foods that you wish to eat and is based on sound medical and scientific principles.

Depending on your body weight, fitness targets and general lifestyle, low carb dieting can help you lose weight, and can also help you develop the overall health, or possibly both. Because this diet provides the body with what it needs and what is safe for the long term, some healthy people follow it to enhance and maintain their wellbeing. In addition to helping lose weight, this type of diet also helps you stay healthy and remain that way, while looking great.

Improved Health

Low carb dieting directly works on the real cause of the main health concerns and risks; namely:

  • High cholesterol
  • Obesity
  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes

These diseases are related to being overweight; and are very fatal. Low carb dieting is effective because it generally improves one’s well-being and thus increases your body’s ability to fight diseases. It is important for those who are overweight and plagued by these main diseases to know that they need to seek safe diets that do not worsen their condition.

It is widely believed that a lot of excess weight comes from the carbohydrates we eat, particularly the highly refined ones such as potatoes, baked goods, bread, pasta and other convenient foods. Cutting out the carbs is therefore an effective way of losing weight. Lack of exercise also exacerbates the weight gain.

Basic Discipline

The basic discipline behind low carb dieting is to limit the consumption of foods, which are rich in carbohydrates. There are various low carb diets; with the main ones being the Atkins, South Beach, Zone and Carbohydrate Addict Diet – and they are all based on the same principle.

If you start on this diet plan, you must substitute the carbohydrates with fats and proteins. It is recommended that the majority of your daily calorie consumption come from fat, while carbohydrates account for a very small fraction of your calorie needs.

Benefits

Many medical and scientific experts recommend the low carb dieting plan for improving:

  • Overall health and vitality
  • Losing weight
  • Fighting disease

Proper Food Choices

The other attraction of this regimen is that you can eat as much as you want until you are full; as long as you are eating the right foods, such as meats, fish, poultry, eggs, and cheese, plus a limited amount of green veggies like asparagus, spinach, and broccoli. Hunger and strong cravings for food are some of the reasons why people quit their diets, so basically this diet enables people to stick to it, lose weight and keep it off indefinitely.

It is therefore recommended to follow this regimen by eating less of the processed carbohydrates which cause rapid changes in blood sugar, trigger hunger, thereby encouraging overeating that ultimately leads to obesity.

Low carb diets encourage us to:

  • Eat well
  • Be healthy
  • Have a better quality of life
  • Look great!

What great benefits you can gain while reaching or maintaining your weight loss goals.

Good exercising and dieting tips for a ripped upper torso?

I workout like swimming and sit ups and occasionally push ups. I don’t do weightlifting because I am still 13. But I am not good with the dieting. I eat like an elephant. Any tips out there?

You cannot "rip" what isn’t there. Your first goal has to be to add lean mass and for that you add muscle by weight lifting. Thirteen is plenty old enough to start lifting weights. I’ll link you to a site that will help you figure out what exercises to build size/strength and what to eat etc.

if you go on starvation mode – your body will store your body fat.

And if you go on hunger strike, – it is not healthy (that is why famine kills) and you will more likely binge on foods after.
