Most likely you could. MS publisher or the Print Shop programs would work as they can produce a variety of different projects and size can be changed to fit almost anything. I’ve made mini flyers to go with business cards that are basically just over double the height and so can be folded over the business card and paper clipped. I have developed a computer software data base for a hospital. How can I copy right my work so there is some kind of security for me.

There is much opportunity for confusion and misunderstanding here, not to mention sharp practice. You already own the copyright in anything that you have created simply through the act of creating it. However, it is wise to create a copy of your creation and post it to yourself (and maybe several other people) in an envelope that will be dated by means of postmark and which you don’t open. That is your ‘line in the sand.’

You may also need to take advice about whether you or your employer holds the copyright on material you created when in their service. This gets complicated – are you an employee? a contractor? – and may differ between countries and between different firms.

And if you are a contractor/consultant running a private company, there are pluses and minuses associated with whether you hold the copyright personally or your company holds it.

But you also need to consider issues such as patents, trademarks, etc., which are probably more important. The field here is a minefield and you do need professional advice from a patent attorney and/or a trademark attorney. This advice is worth paying for or you could finish up losing the rights to your own work. And you need to shop around for a good one, which means asking your contacts.

And as soon as you have some idea of which way the wind is blowing, get yourself some insurance against having your patents/trademarks/copyrights infringed. I’m afraid that some of the big players in the field think little of lifting someone else’s invention and regarding the cost of a patent infringement suit as the price of doing business.

I used Better Homes and Gardens Landscaping and Deck Designer and thought it was a great program. It actually had a lot more stuff than I really needed but I still use it to look up different types of plants every time I get the urge to plant something new.

It’s pretty easy to use.

Yes, definitely possible. Just like you can do basic arithmetic without a math degree. I won’t agree that programming in general is a great skill to have, but if you are interested in web programming, that is a different story.

Just like math can solve daily life issues with budget, interest rate and time consumption, having some basic web programming knowledge will help you in express yourself better at internet world.

And the easiest way to learn about programming is through web programming too. You can start with HTML and CSS, and later on with PHP, MySQL, Javascript and XML.

And you should not worry about the system and the computer so much (Powerbook G4 should work fine). The computer languages which I listed above are very system friendly.

However, if you are interested in creating animation, mulitplayer games, voice recognition…. it will be slightly difficult to learn without a degree. Having said that, learning web programming will still help you build a fundamental in programming. It’s cumulative

The software developed in India are many times not used by common man. I don’t know about many, however, can give you some examples.

The latest version of QuarkXpress by Quark Inc. which is used by publication houses was more or less developed in India.

Infosys is developing some software for Boeing (don’t know the inside details).

A lot many websites are developed/started in India. For example – both Yahoo and Hotmail were developed and started in India and then sold to the western MNC’s.

I’m what you call computer dumb so here I am trying to connect my cell phone with my laptop (via cable, of course) and the computer wizard tells me I need software to recognize the hardware (of course!). I constantly reformat my computer. However, it is a hassle to reinstall the same software over and over. I have enough HD space to spare if I could backup my main partition in a "fresh" format, so that later I may simply just replicate that back onto the main partition. What is the easiest, simple, free way to do this? Also, some compression on that partition might be nice to save space.

To create a partition either:
A)Format the drive, in windows XP setup delete the primary partition, and then create 2 new ones
B)Use a boot CD, such as Knoppix Linux, and use the Tool "QTparted" – this allows a partition to be re-sized and make a new one without losing any data.

As for the backup, Norton Ghost is by far the best, but it is not free. The freeware alternative is MUCH poorer in comparison. ( http://www.xxcopy.com/index.htm )

You might want to look at WHY you are formatting so often and resolve that, there really is no need in XP – especially with good antivirus/spyware tools and it’s own System restore.

How do I know if spy software is installed on my computer?
Is there a way to find out if someone has installed spy software onto my computer? Software that logs keystrokes, emails, chat etc… I am not sure that spyware programs are going to detect this on my computer? Some of those spy software programs even claim that once it is installed, it is totally undetectable?

You should run Spybot Search & Destroy – it has keylogger definitions. Most anti-spyware programs should be able to pick it up – but I recommend Spybot as the weapon of choice against keyloggers.

Remember that you can only have one anti-virus, but you can have as many anti-spyware applications as you want. Other free anti-spyware programs would be Ad-aware, AVG Anti-spyware (formally Ewido), Super Anti-spyware and SpywareBlaster.

I am getting a new computer soon, and since most of my software was downloaded and registered online (no disk) I am concerned about how to best go about transferring the programs from my old computer to my new one. For example I tried making a copy of my FL Studio Program, and it worked…sort of. When I installed the disc into another computer it functioned, but was missing some key features that are supposed to be there. Here’s what I did. I opened Nero, selected burn data cd, browsed program files til I found the one labeled FL STUDIO, and then I opened it into Nero. As I said before, the burn was successful, it just didn’t contain everything that was originally included in the software. I need advice because I don’t have much longer with my old computer, and I have ALOT of software that I need to backup onto cd. I just want to know that the copy will contain everything I need to install the entire program on my new pc….or else i’m just wasting CD-R’s!! Thanks for your help!!
